Ariana Locono is a 14 year old student who got suspended from school for having a nose piercing. Her nose ring was a violation of the dress code in Johnston County school. Her piercing was not just for looks but it was part of her religion, so she complained that its in the First Amendment for her to have religious freedom. After the suspension she went back to school with her mother, but she got suspended again, for now five days! But after talking to officials, she said she had the rights to wear the nose ring. And now she hopes for better days in school without getting suspended.
I believe if the First amendment states that we have "freedom of religion" then the school can't violate the amendment and make decisions on their own and suspend students, because the state is in a higher position then schools. But in this case, I believe the school had no idea that Ariana's Nose piercing had to do with her religion, and thought it was an excuse to wear the nose piercing until they found out that, its a rare religion called "church of body modification." Even though if I have no idea what that religion is, I believe if I get religious freedom Ariana should get hers too.
